Pediatric Eye Exams

What is a pediatric exam?

A pediatric eye exam is a comprehensive exam focused on screening for conditions common early on in childhood including, refractive error (myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism), strabismus, amblyopia, etc.

Children’s vision develops rapidly in the first few years of life, and early detection of vision problems is crucial. By scheduling regular pediatric eye exams, we can ensure that your child’s eyes are developing properly and address any concerns before they affect learning or behavior.

Signs your child may need an eye exam

It’s important to watch for signs that your child may be experiencing vision difficulties. If you notice any of the following, an eye exam may be needed:

  • Squinting or rubbing eyes frequently

  • Complaining of headaches or eye strain

  • Difficulty focusing on reading or classroom tasks

  • Sitting too close to the TV or holding books close to their face

  • Frequent eye watering or redness

  • A noticeable difference in the appearance of the eyes (misalignment, excessive tearing, etc.)

If you see any of these signs, it’s important to schedule an eye exam to ensure your child’s eyes are healthy and developing well.

Myopia Control

If your child is diagnosed with myopia (nearsightedness), early intervention can help slow its progression. Myopia control treatments such as multifocal lenses, Ortho-K lenses, and atropine drops can help reduce the risk of myopia worsening over time and decrease the chances of future eye health complications.
